“Comedy is fragile,” says instructor Kate Montgomery. “One extra word can ruin a laugh. But the truth is, just about anyone can be funny, once they know how it’s done.”
In this 3-hour class, you’ll learn the rules of comedic structure, and how you can use them to make any story more entertaining. You’ll find out how to make a character or situation more amusing, how to structure a comic set up and pay off, why the 'rule of three' is so effective, and why some words are just funnier than others. Through a mix of team and individual writing exercises, you’ll get to apply these techniques right away.
Kate says, “Whether you're looking to create the next hit TV series or infuse your novel with more laughs, we’ll cover a lot of ground in this fun, fast-paced class and you’ll leave with tools and materials you can keep to reference later.”

- Live Zoom Meeting, Saturday, July 16, 10:00am-1:00pm
Kate Montgomery was not only warm and inviting, she was 100% prepared, providing stacks of carefully considered handouts while also maintaining a flexibility to follow the rhythm of our group. Her knowledge in the field was undeniable and her enthusiasm for discussing and dissecting students' ideas was balanced by honest notes and critiques. I hope to be signing up for another class of hers soon.
