Why is getting published the best kept secret in the literary world? Why do some authors feel successful while others languish? For writers poised to publish poems, articles and stories as well as those with completed manuscripts or book proposals, this online class will provide a strategy for success.
Instructor Joan Gelfand says, “During our two and a half hours together, we will concentrate on three of the Four C’s of successful authors: Commitment, Community and Confidence. You will learn why it is critical to employ these tenets into your writing practice BEFORE submitting your creative work. We’ll discuss your publishing challenges, query and cover letters as well as review important components of successful book proposals.”
After this evening class, each participant will have:
- The start of an individually tailored cover/query letter
- Tips on creating a writing community and becoming a respected literary citizen
- A plan for creating a winning "writer's resume"
- A plan for overcoming confidence challenges
- A toolkit for fiction, nonfiction and poetry book proposals.
The goal of “You Can Be a Winning Writer” is to design a work plan and strategy for success that includes submissions, community building and delivering a finished product.

This class was a friendly reality-check for publishing hurdles. I appreciated Joan's ability to connect with each person's project goals and give them concrete next steps.
