“Expressive writing practices—like journaling, working with images, and composing letters and lists—can be highly effective tools for self-awareness, emotional resilience, and enhancing creativity,” says instructor Kimberly Lee. “This class is ideal for those seeking to tune into their powerful inner voice and improve their health and well-being.”
Over the course of three weeks, Kimberly will introduce more than a dozen distinct writing practices, including springboards, captured moments, and topics du jour, amongst many others. The exercises are designed to help you nurture a deeper connection with your innermost thoughts, feelings, and aspirations. Kimberly says, “This type of introspective—yet fun—writing paves the way to finding purpose and direction in our lives.”
Each week will include structured prompts and in-class writing exercises, along with an opportunity for reflection and sharing, at your discretion. Prompts and exercises will help you organize your thoughts and clarify your goals, leading to unexpected creative ideas. Short readings of authors including J. Ruth Gendler and Pat Schneider will provide further inspiration and food for thought. There will also be an intuitive collage activity to stimulate empowered writing.
Kimberly says, “By the end of class, students will have gained valuable insights and a toolbox of imaginative practices to add to their self-care repertoire.”
