In this introductory class, instructor Elaine Beale will lead a series of sessions designed to teach participants about the key elements of creative writing craft. She will touch on fiction, nonfiction, and poetry so you get a chance to explore all these genres in one class.

"We’ll do lots of in-class writing exercises and provide time for you to share your work," says Elaine. "We’ll also talk about stories, essays, and poems by published writers, and what makes them come alive. There will also be optional assignments between classes to help you find your own voice, learn how to develop vivid description and images, and create compelling drama on the page.

“Most people who take this class have limited creative writing experience. But by the time class is over, everyone will leave with a lot more confidence in their own writing talents, work they are proud of, and a commitment to continuing to write.”

Reviews
  • Elaine is an excellent, dynamic teacher and very organized with materials and communications. Her critiquing of our writing was extremely valuable. In addition to her considerable experience, she has a gift for it. . . . I wish she could always be my reader, and would definitely take another course taught by her and recommend her classes to others.

  • I am a big fan of Elaine's classes. She immediately puts the novice at ease and her enthusiastic love of the craft is contagious.
