“You’ve generated some rich, raw, organic material loaded with potential—perhaps a draft of an essay, a memoir or a reported piece of nonfiction,” says instructor Kerry Muir. “What’s next?”
This workshop is for nonfiction writers who wish to shape, sculpt, structure, deepen and develop work already in progress. Class conversations will center around the material you submit, delving into the unique delights and dilemmas of each individual piece. Participants will be workshopped at least three times in this bimonthly class.
We’ll set aside time each session to focus on a particular craft element (such as persona and voice, story shapes, character arcs, pacing, confession and the implied audience) by way of writing exercises, readings and discussions of published work. The bulk of class time, however, will be spent workshopping student work in a supportive, nurturing environment.
Come, meet like-minded writers, hone your skills, and get your nonfiction as good as gold!

Kerry's enthusiasm was contagious and she encouraged each student, while helping them see how to improve their work. She created a friendly and supportive atmosphere through group discussion, and suggested further readings.
I very much enjoyed Kerry's teaching style. She was warm and personable and at the same time knowledgeable, experienced and a great group leader. Each meeting Kerry had instructions to share with us, various writing tools, printed handouts of examples and e-mail info that she shared with us via e-mail btw meetings. Also, Kerry's workshopping feedback was always relevant and super helpful.
