Where do our poems come from, and once we’ve found our poetic material, how can we give it voice, form, and music, and bring it to life for readers? “Whether you’re an experienced poet or just starting out,” says instructor Heather June Gibbons, “this generative, multi-week class will offer craft lessons and writing exercises to help you find fresh sources of inspiration and further develop your skills and voice.”
We will meet online four times over the course of seven weeks in a supportive, fun environment. Each class will include an interactive craft lesson, lively discussion, writing prompts, and time to write and share. Heather says, “In the weeks between class meetings, I’ll provide you with readings that exemplify the techniques we study, an additional writing prompt, and encouragement and ideas for developing your material further. Please note that this is a generative craft class, not a workshop. Though you will have chances to share your writing with the group for positive feedback, we will not spend time on peer critique.”
By the end of the class, you’ll have new poems, fresh inspiration and insights into your own creative process, and stronger technique, as well as the support and momentum that comes from being part of a vibrant and nurturing class community.

Heather was an inspiring and supportive teacher. The beginning of each class clearly laid out the elements of the theme and tools to apply them to our work, and the sharing portion of each class was strengths-focused. Heather has a deep love of words and creating that comes through in the class, and it did make me feel more energized.
"Heather was great, she was engaging and fun. She created a relaxing atmosphere and helped me to overcome this sense of stage fright with sharing in front of others."
