"Writing begins in curiosity, an impulse toward discovery, a feeling that something wants to be expressed," instructor Jennifer Lewis says. "This class will give you the inspiration and encouragement you need to follow that impulse and to discover the stories that are already within you."
In this 5-week class, you’ll explore the joy of storytelling and the expressive possibilities in different genres, including short story, personal essay, memoir, and poetry. Through guided prompts and engaging exercises, you’ll practice transforming everyday moments into compelling images, settings, and scenes. For optional out-of-class assignments, you’ll read from thought-provoking writers like Ingrid Rojas Contreras, Ocean Vuong, and R.O. Kwon. Then, during class, we’ll discuss how these authors bring their stories and poems to life.
“This class is perfect for getting started as a writer or for rediscovering your creative spark,” says Jennifer. “By the end of 5 weeks, you’ll have fresh writing, a stronger connection to your creative instincts, and greater confidence in your ability to tell stories."
