“Do you have a story lurking at the back of your mind? A monologue on the tip of your tongue? Got a free morning?” asks instructor Jessica Litwak. “It’s time to write a ten-minute play!”
In this short intensive workshop, students will receive a basket filled with playwriting tools, specifically with the ten-minute play form in mind. Tools will include character development, dialogue, story arc, and other essentials for dramatic writing. Through readings, discussions, and writing exercises, each student will be guided towards the creation of a 10-minute play. Before the end of class, we’ll share what we’ve written and discuss next steps for development.
Jessica says, “Whether you want to write something comic, tragic, magical, or musical, the ten-minute play is a short dramatic form that can capture your full theatrical story. Writers at all levels of experience are welcome. If you are new to the genre, you’ll learn the basics of playwriting while working within this short form. If you are an experienced script writer, you’ll have the opportunity to develop a draft of a ten-minute play in one afternoon.”
