“The best way to learn anything is to DO it,” says instructor Kate Montgomery. “In this fun and informative 3-session boot camp, you’ll throw yourself in right away, learning and then immediately applying the basics of professional screenwriting.
With an interactive mix of lecture and discussion, group and individual writing exercises, and course materials you can keep to reference later, the first two sessions will focus on the art of screenwriting itself. You’ll learn screenwriting structure and format, how to hook your audience with a compelling through-line filled with complex characters, and how to layer in those surprising twists and cliffhanger moments that make a film exciting and a TV show binge-worthy. In a lively and encouraging online environment, you’ll experience the fun of “spit-balling” in a virtual “writer’s room” to brainstorm story ideas across multiple genres.
To make it to the screen, a project must win the support of the decision makers who can give it the “green light”. In our third session you’ll learn what goes into a great pitch package and how to identify the agents, actors and producers who’ll be most likely to bring your project to the screen.
“Whether you want to write a major motion picture or the next hit series, successful screenwriting takes commitment, self-discipline, and industry know-how, ” says Kate. “This 3-day intensive will give you the tools and strategies you need to create and sell an original screenplay.”
