Miles Davis once noted: “Man, sometimes it takes you a long time to sound like yourself.” “Miles had a point,” says instructor Allison Landa. “We don’t so much find our own voice as curate it over time, sifting through a variety of craft points and influences so that we may – at long last – sound like ourselves.”
Voice doesn’t develop overnight, nor does it come to us in a dream. It takes trial, error, and experimentation. In this half-day online workshop, we’ll discuss our own voices as writers, using in-class readings to both expand and challenge our views. We'll also do a cycle of guided writing exercises to get a better sense of our own unique sounds, syntax, and sensibilities.
"By the end of our three hours together," Allison says, "you’ll walk away with clear next steps and fresh inspiration to continue the journey toward honing your singular voice."

Allison was kind and courteous. She made the class fun by making it a casual conversation rather than a dry lecture, and gave generous and thoughtful comments to our writing. She also made everyone feel welcome and included.
Allison was a great instructor- and was able to respond to the needs of the participants with hugely different levels of experience in writing. I also liked the readings - they helped a lot with my learning.
