You've read about writing. You've thought about writing. You've talked about it and dreamed about it. Now's the time to do it.
Write-a-Thon is designed to get you stringing words together in a supportive group of other writers while facilitator Daniel Ari offers gentle guidance and a variety of prompts and exercises. While this is not a typical "instructional" class about craft with lectures and reading samples, it is an arena for you to make discoveries about your own craft, voice and style as you experiment, take risks and play.
"Sessions usually have three or four beats," says Daniel. "We start with a short exercise to warm up the writing mind. That's followed by 15 to 20 minutes of writing with prompts relating to subject, style, imagery, word choice, or other variables. The ideas sparked in that round lead us into a longer arc of drafting. And sometimes, we end with a word game or surrealist score such as exquisite corpse."
There are opportunities to share what you write with the group, though sharing is always optional. Feedback is kept to appreciations. You won't be workshopping, but you may find yourself in lively discussions about the writing life, publishing, and art. "More than anything," says Daniel, "we'll be writing, having fun, and meeting other like-minded writers.”

Daniel has a lovely combination of knowledge about writing and playfulness that allows him to create a space where I find it easy to let my creativity flow in new ways.
In his monthly workshops, Daniel simply gets you to write. He has deep understanding that he wears lightly as he gets you to put pen to paper. In this regard, I have written poems in Daniel's workshops that were subsequently published.
Daniel helped me deepen my relation with my work and find my voice in his writing group. His groups are engaging and always filled with mutual respect and the good spirit of taking a leap into our unexplored places!
